Perth has traditionally been regarded as a few years behind both Sydney or Melbourne as a foodie destination. However, this is now changing at a rate of knots.

In addition its own beautiful and bountiful local produce, Perth’s close proximity to the Indian Ocean (and Asia) means that it has easy access to a plethora of exotic ingredients, food cultures and cuisines.

To help guide your choice, we’ve selected a number of the finest Thai restaurants in Perth right now. So the next time you fancy a fiery Tom Yum Soup or a filling Pad See Ew, check out this guide.

15 best Thai Restaurants in Perth

Wok & Ladle: Thai Eatery

Location: 8/232 Hay St, East Perth, WA 6004 Ph: (08) 9325 7546

The first entry on our list of the best Thai restaurants in Perth is an eatery that places authenticity of flavour and atmosphere above all else.

Although it has a relatively small menu, we commend Wok & Ladle for serving authentic, fuss-free food. In particular, their famous signature crispy pork belly stir-fry dish is a stand-out.

What is great about this place, is that you have the option to build your own curry or stir-fry to your preference.

However, if that sounds daunting, don’t panic. For the less adventurous soul, their menu offers a range of traditional Thai classics like Masaman, red, green and yellow curries. There’s also Tom Yum soup, larb and Pad Thai noodles to choose from.

Wok and Ladle is renowned for its friendly service, making their customers feel right at home in their restaurant.

Galangal Thai Restaurant

Location: 180 Scarborough Beach Rd, Perth, WA 6016 Ph: (08) 9444 6005

A Gold Plate Award Winner in 2015, Galangal is open for dine-in and takeway seven days a week.

After the recent internal renovations, Galangal feels chic, warm and modern with its funky collage and red parasols hanging from the ceiling.

Galangal’s stated mission is to “transport your senses and offer a range of dishes that you will find nowhere else” – it’s a big call, but, on many levels, the restaurant delivers on the promise.

There’s a focus on quality produce and local ingredients. All the beef used at Galangal is Futuri Wagyu from Albany, and the poultry is always free-range and ethically sourced (including the amazing Wagin pasture-raised duck).

The seafood is sourced locally from Exmouth, from the banana prawns in the stir fry, to the barramundi in the mains.

There is no attempt to over-use spices to hide the quality of the protein, at Galangal it’s front and centre as the ‘hero’ of the dish.

Inspired by Executive Chef Jang’s early years spent in the kitchen in her family restaurant in Thailand, the rich, hearty aromatic beef curry is wonderful. The curry paste is handmade from scratch and has its own ‘wow’ factor.

This is a restaurant that proudly trumpets its modern authentic Thai and Western influences, harmoniously combined into something uniquely ‘Galangal’.
